A madman named Art the Clown terrorizes two friends and anyone who gets in his way on Halloween. David Howard Thornton was the sixth person to audition for the role of Art the Clown after Mike Giannelli gave up the role and acting. During the audition, he pretended to taste the blood of his decapitated victim, but then salted it to improve the taste. This is how he won the role. In the shots where Tara is gagged with duct tape, in some earlier shots the duct tape is obviously not in contact with her lower jaw, while in other shots it is wrapped tightly around both lips. Paramedic Roman: How can you eat a greasy croissant while dismembering corpses? Coroner: Honey, I’ve been doing this for 22 years, okay? Once you’ve seen an eight-month-old child microwaved to death, everything else is water under the bridge. Written and performed by: Thanks. Art the Clown started out in 2011 with a short film of the same name, which I honestly didn’t like. Creator Damien Leone kept Art in his feature film All Hallows’ Eve (2013), albeit in a small role. Now here we are and Art has his own film, but is it any good? Honestly, not really, but it’s better than his last solo outing. It follows the standard slasher formula, featuring a couple of girls being attacked by a psychotic clown on Halloween night. So again, this is generic stuff, it covers all the usual tropes, and while it’s not predictable, it’s certainly devoid of surprises. It’s also pretty ugly, and has odd pacing throughout. What Terrifier does offer, however, is pure, unadulterated brutality. This is bloodthirsty, merciless stuff with no rules, I was actually pretty shocked. Considering the budget, they make the whole thing look really good, so kudos to the special effects department. I love clowns as antagonists, but Art doesn’t seem to suit me enough. He’s less of a clown and more of a mime, and doesn’t seem like an interesting enough character to carry his own movie. Passable stuff, but this time next week I’ll have forgotten about it. The good: Impressively gruesome visuals. Jenna Kanell. Unpredictable. The bad: Doesn’t exactly flow. Bad cinematography.
